The Problem Space

Individuals with disabilities face difficulties when it comes to finding meaningful connections and relationships. Traditional methods of dating can be challenging for them, as they may not be accessible or accommodating to their needs. Additionally, people with disabilities may face discrimination or prejudice when using mainstream dating apps, which can make it difficult for them to find compatible partners. Who cares you ask?

Together, they represent more than 61 million people in the USA alone who face a dating world that is anything but accessible, compassionate or empathetic.

The Market Gap

We live in a world where we have a dating app for almost everyone except the disabled and the chronically ill community.

Our Process

Dateability is a dating application designed specifically for people with disabilities. To get started, we interviewed 40 disabled users across mobility, sensory and cognitive/developmental impairments, to get to know about their dating app frustrations and feature Wishlist. This activity helped us clearly identify the pain points and establish archetypes. Some questions we pondered upon were:

Do you find it difficult to find people who are open to dating you?

What would you like in a dating app?
I'd like to connect with people who get what daily life is like living with my disability. Currently it's lonely feeling like no one can relate.
